President's Weekend
We had an extra long weekend with Fletcher due to an unscheduled power outage up at Camp Hansen which gave him the Friday before President's Day off. I have to say with all the the holidays he's worked and/or been gone, I think this should be a given for the next 5 years at least. :) Regardless, we had Fletcher off work Friday through Tuesday and we made the most of it. Saturday we got to visit with a friend from Knoxville, Andy Foss. He had flown in for a night with the Tennessee Air National Guard, so that was fun to get to visit and catch up. We made it to Saturday night church since the Okinawa Marathon was on Sunday. It runs right by our church, so Sunday church is always cancelled that weekend. That left our Sunday completely open. What to do? We packed a lunch and headed north to explore Cape Hedo (the northern-most point of the island) and everything in between. Since I'm a car-sleeper, I packed a mug of cappucino and we were off. We stopped at a park in Nago to have our picnic and run off some energy for the boys. After Nago, we decided to cross the big bridge we'd seen for the last 2 years and explore Kouri Island. It was gorgeous and the boys loved watching the windsurfer go at it. We stopped up at Okuma to ride bikes and play a little putt-putt before continuing onto Cape Hedo. The weather was beautiful all weekend and the water so clear, so we enjoyed getting to spend the day outside. We left the house around 9 that morning and returned home close to 9 that night. The only thing missing is a picture of the boys when we got home.....wiped out, but made for a quiet car ride home. I'm beyond excited about returning home this summer, but the memories made on this island are ones we'll have forever.
